Talking with MU

A Letter from Pepe Barguñó

MU, I never explained to you why everything ended up carrying your name. You never asked me either. You were doing your own thing. Running around, jumping into any pool you found, disappearing for a few minutes and coming back soaked as if nothing had happened. Five kilos of well-organized chaos.

You were called MU because you looked like a cow. That simple. You had spots, and someone (me) thought it was funny. Sometimes important things start like that, unintentionally. A name said almost as a joke that sticks forever. You came into my life because your parents lived in some stables. Stable dogs, coming and going among the horses. They had a litter, and I stayed with you. There were no big decisions, no plans. Just intuition. And company. Lots of it.

You were fearless. Truly. Not as a concept, but as a way of being in the world. Always free, always alert, always understanding everything before I even said it. Everyone knew you. And you seemed to know everyone too. Intelligent, obedient, independent. And with one clear obsession: water and balls.

Back then I didn’t have a partner. I had time, ideas, and the desire to create things. And I had you. That’s when the first brand was born: Intrepid MU. And almost as an unconscious tribute, it carried your name. You were there all the time, and it turned out to be the most natural thing.

Then came the 2008 crisis. And with it, the end of that first adventure. The brand closed. And at that very moment, you left too. It was neither cause nor consequence, just two endings that coincided and marked a new chapter. Time passed.

Years later, the need to create returned. You were no longer there, but you still existed. In a different way. Quieter. And when looking for a name for this new beginning, you appeared again. This time from another place: memory. That’s how Thinking MU was born.

It wasn’t nostalgia. It was continuing to talk to you without speaking. Moving forward without erasing you. Understanding that some things aren’t left behind; they simply become part of who you are.

Today the brand continues to grow, change, and learn. And your name is still there. It’s there because it always was. Because it is part of the origin of all of this.

I never told you, MU. But if someone asks why we are called that, the answer is you.
