Talking with MU
A letter by Pepe Barguñó

MU, I never explained why everything ended up carrying your name. You never asked either. You were busy with your own things. Running around, jumping into any pool you could find, disappearing for a few minutes and coming back soaked, as if nothing had happened. Five kilos of well-organized chaos.
You were called MU because you looked like a cow. As simple as that. You had spots, and someone (me) thought it was funny. Sometimes important things start like this, without intention. A name said almost as a joke that ends up staying forever. You came into my life because your parents lived in stables. Yard dogs, moving in and out among horses. They had a litter and I kept you. There were no big decisions, no plans. Just intuition. And company. A lot of it.
You were truly adventurous. Not as a concept, but as a way of being in the world. Always off the leash, always alert, always understanding everything before I even said it. Everyone knew you. And you seemed to know everyone too. Smart, obedient, independent. With one clear obsession: water and balls.
At that time, I didn’t have a partner. I had time, ideas, and the urge to do things. And I had you. That’s when the first brand was born: Intrépida MU. Almost unconsciously, it carried your name. You were there all the time, and it felt like the most natural thing in the world.
Then came the 2008 crisis. And with it, the end of that first adventure. The brand came to an end. And around that same moment, you were gone too. Not cause or consequence, just two endings that happened at the same time and marked a change of chapter. Time passed.
Years later, the need to create returned. You were no longer there, but you were still present. In a different way. Quieter. And when it was time to find a name for that new beginning, you appeared again. This time from another place: memory. That’s how Thinking MU was born.
It wasn’t nostalgia. It was continuing a conversation without words. Moving forward without erasing you. Understanding that some things aren’t left behind — they simply become part of who you are.
Today the brand keeps growing, changing, learning. And your name is still there. Because it was always there. Because it’s part of the real origin of all this.
I never told you, MU. But if someone asks why we’re called this, the answer is you.
